OpenURL Linking Information

Ovid LinkSolver is a comprehensive, OpenURL resource linking solution that expands the power of linking to a wide variety of internet resources through the LinkSolver Administrative Tool.


BaseURL for Ovid LinkSolver (All Ovid LinkSolver customers utilize the same BaseURL):
Service ID (SID) OpenURL guidelines require the source of a link to include their service ID (SID parameter) on the URL)

Ovid:xxxx (database format longname e.g., medline)


URL Parameters for Ovid LinkSolver

Ovid LinkSolver is an OpenURL compliant resolver and as such should operate successfully when provided a valid, OpenURL compliant link. The following table describes the meta-tags defined in the OpenURL standard, used by Ovid LinkSolver. If parameters are given to Ovid LinkSolver with tags that are not supported, their values will be ignored, unless specified in the LinkSolver Administrative Tool. For example, if bici or coden are passed, the server will silently ignore them unless the administrator has defined them in the LinkSolver Administrative Tool.

Ovid LinkSolver also has the ability to resolve DOIs and PubMed IDs.

The syntax for sending a DOI to Ovid LinkSolver is: http://linksolver.ovid.com/OpenUrl/LinkSolver?id=doi:<digital object identifier>

The syntax for sending a PubMed ID to Ovid LinkSolver is: PubMed ID http://linksolver.ovid.com/OpenUrl/LinkSolver?id=pmid:<pubmed id>

OpenURL Tags Used By Ovid LinkSolver
Tag Description
atitle+ The title of an individual item (article, preprint, conference proceeding, part of a book).
aulast+ A string with the first author's last name. In cases where authors last and first names are not distinguished, this tag can be used to submit the full author name in the form of LastName, FirstName or LastName, FirstInitial. E.G. aulast=Smith, John or aulast=Smith, J.
date+ The publication date. The format is YYYY where YYYY is the year.
eissn An electronic ISSN number.
isbn An ISBN number.
issn* An ISSN number.
issue+ The issue of a bundle.
pages Pages covered by an individual item in a bundle. The format of this field is “spage-epage”.
pid The local identifier zone.
sid+ Origin description. The values for this field are:

Sid=<vendorID>:<databaseID>

Where:
vendorID = vendor of the information service where metadata originates
databaseID = database within the vendor’s information service where the metadata originates.

spage* The start page of an individual item in a bundle.
title+ The title of a bundle (journal, book, conference).
volume The volume of a bundle.
