We are pleased to announce several improvements to both Ovid Linksolver
and Links@Ovid. These improvements will be made available through
the Links Administrative Tool accessed via your Ovid administrative
user ID. A
brief summary of linking improvements follows.
Global
Import / Global Export
The new link admin tool permits the import of a global publication
file. It is no longer necessary to maintain a separate file per
target or provider. This enhancement streamlines both the import
and export of subscription and coverage information and improves
the speed at which sites can incorporate links to their content.
Customization
of Linksolver Landing Page
The links ‘landing page’, otherwise known as the External
Link Resolver page allows for customized branding by site. Institutional
logos, text, font and colors can be applied by the incorporation
of cascading style sheets. Institutions can now inform their users
that they are sponsoring this linking resource for them.
Support
for Ovid’s Comprehensive Limit to Available Full Text
Administrators can take an SFX or SerialsSolutions holdings file
and upload it directly into the Ovid Links service. This allows
searchers using Ovid databases to take full advantage of the valuable
search limit to ALL institutionally subscribed full text regardless
of vendor!
More
Import Options
A general delimited file import is also accepted. Administrators
can manipulate the import file by assigning column headings from
a simple pull down list, rather than reformatting the file. The
administrator can also choose whether or not to import data columns,
further streamlining the import process.
Embargo
support
Administrators have full support for maintaining embargoed journals,
including publisher-embargoes and free-after-n-month embargoes.
The number of months that journal is embargoed is assigned either
by accepting the Ovid default setting or by entering a customized
setting. Users also benefit from all free full text that becomes
available after the prescribed embargo period has elapsed.
Coverage
support for either Year or Volume/Issue
Institutions and publishers supply coverage information in a variety
of formats. Version 2.0 will provide flexibility to administrators
by permitting journal coverage based on either year or by assigning
start and end volumes and issues.
Copy
Link Targets to other groups
Administrators of large number of groups have a convenient way of
copying precise coverage information for each target to all members
for which they administrate. Administrators can choose whether to
copy one target only, or many targets. This streamlines the current
process whereby a new import must take place for each group.
Enhanced
Links@ovid administration tool
Many features once only available to Linksolver customers are now
available for free to Links@ovid users. Administrators can create
their own full text links or any other type of link such as new
Internet Resources. Adminstrators can use their own graphics or
text for the link types they display to the users.
Authentication with other providers has been improved by the inclusion
of proxy server support.
