What
happened to my OpenLinks?
OpenLinks have been migrated to our new linking database/system.
Your OpenLinks will, by default, display under a new link set
called ‘Full Text,’ unless configured otherwise
by your site administrator.
What happened to my Library Holdings (or other OPAC
weblinks)?
Library Holdings and other OPAC links are also being integrated
into our new linking system. By default, they will display under
a link set titled ‘Library Holdings’ unless otherwise
specified by your site administrator.
What is the difference between Ovid Full Text and Full
Text?
Ovid Full Text displays the full text article specific to Ovid's
flagship product, Journals@Ovid. The Full Text link set contains
all other types of remotely accessed electronic full text, including
links to CrossRef member publisher websites.
Why do I see multiple Article Reviews for some citations
in Medline?
The display of multiple Article Review links under a single
citation indicates that the article is available from multiple
database sources. A citation will have two ‘Article Review’
links if there are, for example, article reviews available from
ACP Journal Club and from the Database of Abstracts of Reviews
of Effectiveness (DARE).
If a journal is available from multiple sources (e.g.,
Highwire and CrossRef), which should I select?
It is important that you know the source of your electronic
journal subscription. However, in the case of certain targets,
this is not readily apparent and selecting the appropriate target
may be confusing.
In the case of CrossRef, all publishers who are members of CrossRef
are included in the Links Admin tool and can be filtered by
individual publisher. CrossRef links resolve to the publisher's
web site. However, in some cases, Ovid also has direct linking
agreements with publishers. Therefore, when setting up links,
you may see a situation like the following: - Springer
- Springer - CrossRef
This means that there are two targets, both resolving to the
publisher's web site, for Springer.
In this example, Ovid's linking arrangement with Springer resulted
in the "direct" (non-CrossRef) link target, which
preceded the advent of CrossRef.
The link mechanisms for these two targets are different. Specifically,
the direct Springer link is a 'dynamic' or 'live' link, created
on the fly, that populates a link template from the metadata
in the bibliographic record; while the CrossRef link is stored
in a link database that maintains a separate link for each article
deposited by the publisher to CrossRef.
Ovid makes no recommendation on which link to choose in this
case. The Administrator could choose to enable both links, but
some prefer only a single source for a link target to take advantage
of 'one-click access" to full text.
How are link sets configured?
The Administration Tool is used to configure link sets. This
functionality is available for use by administrators only through
login to http://gateway.ovid.com using an admin user ID and
password. If you do not have one, contact technical support
(support@ovid.com).
What is Buy Now?
The ‘Buy Now’ link is part of Ovid’s new PayPerView
feature that allows you to make an online purchase of a single
full text article for a one-time fee. Purchased articles are
accessible online for a period of 24 hours only, during which
time, users may save or print.
What is Document Delivery? How does this differ from
Document Order?
Document Delivery is a link set that allows the administrator
to establish links to document delivery suppliers or to online
order systems, such as BibSYS. In addition, your librarian/administrator
can configure the system to check for any institutional-subscribed
content first, and subsequently display the Document Delivery
button only if no locally held or electronic resources are available.
The Document Delivery link set has no bearing on the Document
Order button, which will remain in the Citation Manager and
its functionality will be unchanged.
How
long does it take my newly ‘activated’ links to
show in Ovidweb?
Logging out from the Admin Tool activates your links in Ovidweb.
What
are the system requirements (technical support needed from
the library)?
Ovid LinkSolver is centrally hosted at Ovid’s Regional
Data Centers. No local technical support is required.
Does
the system support the OpenURL?
Yes.
Does
the system support NISO OpenURL 1.0?
Yes.
How well does LinkSolver integrate with the ILS and
other e-resource systems?
Ovid LinkSolver is designed to integrate with all major ILS
vendors. Ovid has over 6 years experience in ILS integration.
Does LinkSolver support proxy services such as EZProxy?
We have implemented link prefixes in Ovid LinkSolver to support
proxy services.
How long does it take to install the system?
No installation is required.
How long does the whole implementation process take?
This depends on the complexity. Simple links setup can be
done in one day. Ovid estimates one to two weeks for more
complex implementation including inbound and outbound linking.
How is the installation (implementation) conducted?
Implementation is conducted in conjunction with Ovid training
and support. Web seminars will provide the overview. Support
is available to assist customers with linking to specific
resources.
How is LinkSolver knowledgebase of resources built
and maintained?
The knowledgebase was originally built from a consolidation
of Ovid OpenLinks and SP SilverLinker. In addition Ovid has
added published links for document delivery services, common
OPACs, and a variety of internet resources. Ovid is signing
bilateral link agreements with OpenURL compliant link vendors.
If the vendor maintains the knowledgebase, how often
is it updated?
The knowledgebase is updated daily.
Can customer data be loaded into LinkSolver manually
and in batch?
Yes.
Can print holdings data be uploaded from the OPAC?
Yes, print holdings data can be uploaded by ISSN/coverage.
Is the OPAC search done dynamically, and if so, by
what parameter -- ISSN, title, etc.?
Yes, Ovid LinkSolver is very flexible. Ovid LinkSolver can
send a search by whatever parameters are indicated by the
OPAC syntax.
How customizable is the system interface? Is branding
available?
The buttons to link resources are completely customizable
and offer an excellent branding opportunity.
Are
management reports and usage statistics available?
Yes. These reports will be available from within the new Ovid
Statistics package which is scheduled for release later this
year.
Does
Ovid offer trials or demos?
Yes. Trials and demos are available. Contact your account
representative
